4Nice combination of jigs and silicone lures
By J. Gitzlaff
A useful, cost-effective set of jigs and lures in a nice assortment of colors. As advertised ('panfish'), these lures are scaled for fish around 6-12" in length. My son used some of these with his ultralight rod and caught a small bass his first morning on the lake, so this set gets his enthusiastic thumbs-up.

5Great kit; works surprisingly well
By ira_nyc
This is a good all-around panfish kit that works well. Other companies (Uncle Bucks, etc.) sell these one-off for a lot more money. I was amazed at how these worked in a relatively cheap kit. Works well in NY and NJ freshwater lakes for bluegills, sunfish, perch and even largemouth bass. Enjoy!

5It Actually Works!
By Doug
Unlike the Humminbird RF35, the Norcross Hawkeye can actually detect the fish!

I've used both, the Humminbird works fine as a depth finder, but has difficulty detecting fish. The Hawkeye, on the other hand, sees them.

Case in point, on a recent trip to Crane Prairie Reservoir (Oregon) we were looking for bass. According to the Hawkeye there weren't any fish when we checked their usual holding spots. When we finally moved over to the channel the Hawkeye started detecting fish (and we caught a few). Apparently the heat made the fish move to the deeper parts of the lake. Same thing happened on Paulina and Big Lava lakes. Without the Hawkeye we probably wouldn't have caught a thing!

Also, the Hawkeye uses plain old AAA batteries, unlike the Humminbird which uses an expensive lithium-ion 2450CR watch battery. (The AAAs seem to last longer, too.)

5Well worth the money!!!
By 01-544
I used this fish finder for the first time today on a pontoon boat and I am very impressed with it.

Although the unit doesn't show the actual contour of the bottom or any structures like and average fish finder, it does accurately indicate the type of bottom structure (i.e. rocks, weeds). It will show you if there are long or short weeds or a large or small amount of rock, stumps, etc... with great accuracy with my use.

The depth finder is very accurate, but not as accurate as an average fish finder mounted permanently to a boat. The reason I say it's not as accurate is because the float that holds the sonar sensor moves up and down with any waves and the unit may indicate depths ranging up to 5 feet +/- the actual depth. If the water is calm the unit is very accurate and I have no complaints about it, it served me well with determining the depths of different coves I fished in with a boat.

The unit appeared to quite accurately indicate fish in the approximate area of the boat, when the unit indicated numerous fish were present at a certain depth I would adjust my float on my fishing line to that approximate depth and would have luck catching fish (Bluegill), when no fish were indicated on the finder we never saw nor caught any fish in that area. Based on my results when using the finder to locate fish I would say that this unit is fairly accurate in detecting fish that are present.

The cord that holds the sonar sensor is very durable and should last a long time given it's not scraped across rocks or sharp objects.

The screen is very easy to see outdoors in direct sunlight, I never had a problem with viewing the screen at any time during the day.

The battery life appears to be very long, I had installed used batteries I removed from other devices since I didn't have any new AAA batteries on hand. When I installed the used, batteries the unit indicated that they were very low in charge, however, the unit lasted all day with continuous use without any failure. Based on this performance I would say that the unit would last several trips on the 4 AAA batteries that the unit operates on if the batteries are new.

The operation of the unit if extremely simple and a quick read of the operation manual will have you up and running within 5 minutes.

I would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for a very reasonably priced and accurate fish/depth finder. I plan on using this unit in the near future for shore fishing mainly as a depth gauge, when I have any results after using this unit for shore fishing I will update my review.

4good bang for the buck
By rob
This is a portable fishfinder, and is good at what it does. I've used the threaded "broom handle" mount for the transducer to actually mount the transducer to the bottom of my kayak; then install/uninstall after each trip, rather than use the "float". It works great, marks groups of fish, the alarm is plainly audible, the depth seems accurate from informal and shallow water observation. The depth finder is actually the most valuable part of the tool, since it is using the depth and a chart where fish holding holes and channels can be discovered. Yes, the next step is to get a "real" fish finder, but for the money, ease of use, and portability...this unit is hard to beat.

5Great Combo, Great Price
By Bill Whitworth
I'm giving this combo 5 stars as the value is outstanding! I have paid twice as much for big name reels alone that I was nowhere near as happy with as this combo. The rod is medium action. I would almost rate it medium light. The sensitivity is terrific - reeling in panfish is still fun, but its been plenty tough enough for the larger catfish and drum I hook into while night fishing. The reel is butter smooth. Casting a spoon with 8 pound test line for white bass has been a breeze. We've had a great early start to the fishing season here and I have gotten a ton of use out of this combo (as well as the same model in 5' and 7') and I have had no issues so far. Highly recommended!

5Nice rod great price.
By SDad
I must admit I was very skeptical when I first ordered this rod but after doing a bit of research and finding out that Daiwa has wonderful customer service I took a chance. This rod is awesome for the price. It out cast almost anything under the 100 dollar range if you put decent line on it. It has great flexibility and strikes are easy to feel even when a little ten inch trout is on the line. I got this rod because I have started to fish for Bass this year and was afraid of hooking something to big for an Ultra Lite to handle. I gave my UL to my daughter because she has a knack for landing trout. This rod has caught trout and bass for me with no problem. Less than two months and I have caught 2 nice bass and nearly a dozen or so trout. Only 4 fishing trips and I am trying to think of a way to convince my wife to let me buy another. You won't be disappointed if your looking for a nice in between rod.

5Good Value
By Robert Hunsaker
This rod & reel combo is pretty amazing for the price. Rod is sensitive enough. Reel action is solid, and allows easy casting. I have no idea how they can sell it at this price.

4Good reel and value
By Haus Frau
This reel saw rough use on it's first outing creek fishing for smallmouth. It handled very well on larger smallmouth (18-20") and I suspect it would do just fine with LMB, steelhead, etc. The drag is extremely smooth for the price. First line load on it is 4/15 Power Pro and I have not experienced any line twisting issues. Second use included a week banging around in an aluminum boat and kayaks in the U.P. for pike and smallies. Again, no issues. The reel is light and performs as expected. The 6.2:1 retrieve is a huge plus when pulling buzzbaits with the current or just ripping a lure in to re-cast. 4 stars for not including an extra spool. Shimano should pay attention to Okuma.

5A FOREVER Classic
By James Hong
I have owned this series of reel since I was 6 years old, and I'm 31 now, they have not quit. I own 4 of these in different sizes. The 1000 is plenty for your average freshwater fish under 3 pounds. The 2000 feels almost exactly the same but has a slightly bigger spool, very close in weight, feel, and ability to reel in a fish. I use mine with 4 lb. test line, sometimes up to 6 lb. test if I expect to hook a carp or larger trout. Pairs extremely well with Sufix line, and an ultralight action rod to light action rod.

Rear drag is convenient so you're not sticking your fingers in screaming line trying to tighten drag, and the quickfire II system makes casting a breeze. I love how this reel always resets with the Quickfire trigger ready for casting. Not many brands have this feature and it makes for some very easy and precise casting.

Total number of fish caught on these reels in 25 years probably over a thousand by now, with an average of a dozen or more fish per outing. This reel has handled small panfish to 4 lb trout and every bass size in between with ease. Corrosion will set in if you don't rinse them after exposure to salty water, but they still function even if they're not pretty.

In short: perfection.

5Excelent Quality
By Wolf
Very smooth action and built sturdy. I had one of these on a pole for 20 years before the pole was lost. An excellent quality reel for the price. Only drawback I see is that is does not hold as much line as others, but it still holds more than enough to be fully functional. Composite construction is strong, lightweight, and does not rust or corrode.

5Shocked at how great this reel is
By D. Grenham
I am an avid fisherman and fish with many different kinds of reels. This is one I keep for light saltwater fishing. I am truly amazed at how great this reel is given its price. I have fished with much more expensive reels that do not perform as well as this one. Worth every penny to have a couple of these around.

4No Anti Reverse
By Apollo legend
It's a good all around reel, Strong light and small. The only issue is that it doesn't have anti-Reverse. so when you use it to bounce a jig that half spin backwards can mean setting the hook or missing the fish.
